Do I Need to Believe in Energy Healing for It to Work

Do I Need to Believe
in Energy Healing
for It to Work?

My answer is simple: - No. You don't have to believe—but being open to the experience can certainly help you relax and receive it without resistance.

Energy healing is not a religion, nor does it require you to accept a particular spiritual philosophy. You don't have to understand chakras, auras or subtle energy.

You don't even have to be convinced that healing energy exists.

You can simply be curious.

Some people arrive for their first healing session with great confidence. Others arrive with considerable skepticism—perhaps persuaded by a friend or family member to “give it a try.” Both are perfectly acceptable.

From a spiritual perspective, energy healing is based upon the belief that we are more than our physical bodies. We also have emotional, mental and spiritual aspects to our being, all of which interact with one another.

During a healing session, the practitioner's role is not to convince you of anything. Rather, the healer creates a quiet, supportive environment in which you have an opportunity to relax, become still and reconnect with yourself.

Bear in mind, I have worked with animals and young children – both of whom have no real belief systems, -and have seen some very positive outcomes.

People's experiences vary enormously. Some report warmth or tingling. Others experience deep relaxation, emotional release or an unexpected sense of peace. Some feel very little at the time. None of these responses proves—or disproves—that energy healing has produced a particular medical effect.

And this is an important distinction.

Energy healing should not be used as a replacement for appropriate medical diagnosis or treatment. Scientific evidence for specific health benefits remains mixed, and responsible practitioners should be comfortable acknowledging that. Energy healing is better viewed as a complementary practice that may support relaxation, personal reflection and a sense of wellbeing.

Perhaps, then, the most helpful attitude isn't belief at all.

It is openness.

I worked with a lady who had arthritis in her hands and had been unable to do her “knitting” for many years. She came with her husband who sat on my couch and usually went to sleep during the healing session.

After three sessions her arthritis had gone, her hands and fingers had total movement, and she was able to do her knitting again. She was over the moon.

She then asked if I would work on her husband who she said had a bad back.

I was more than happy and asked her husband to sit in the chair so I could work with him.

He has his arms folded over his chest, his legs were crossed, and he had a look of disdain on his face. Bear in mind he had seen his wife’s dramatic improvement, but I said to him you don’t believe in this do you? His reply was “It’s a load of rubbish” Knowing he was totally closed to any possibilities, I refused to work with him and off he went, holding his lower back as he walked out the door!

You don't need to convince yourself that something wonderful is going to happen. Nor do you need to leave your common sense at the door.

Simply come as you are.

Relax. Be curious. Notice what you experience.

Sometimes the most interesting discoveries begin not with the words “I believe,” but simply with:

“I'm open to finding out.”
